Pre-Assessment
We will assist you as your consultant to seek confirmation of what you will need for your specific pool or spa and we will explain to you how we can assist you to prepare your application documents on your behalf.
Lodgement
We will prepare your documents and lodge them to either a Registered Building surveyor or Local Council
Application Submission
Your Application is Submitted and in our experience we would hope to receive the outcome of your submission within 10 working days although this is not guaranteed.

Do I need a permit for my spa in New South Wales?
There are different rules in each state. Please contact Pool and Spa Approvals to contact us to assist you with where to look up the requirements for each state.
Does my spa pool or swim spa need to be registered with the council in New South Wales?
Yes, spa and pool owners need to register their pools on the online New South Wales government swimming pool register in order to avoid fines.
How long will my approval take?
Depending on the state you live in and the documents that are required each application is unique and times may vary.
Does my new spa need to be fenced with a pool safety barrier in New South Wales?
According to the Swimming Pools Regulation 2018, a spa pool does not need a safety barrier surrounding the spa pool if it is covered and secured by a lockable child-resistant structure (such as a door, lid, grille or mesh) that:
(a) is well constructed and does not have an opening that a testing apparatus can pass through, and
(b) is securely fastened by a device that is well constructed and does not have an opening that a testing apparatus can pass through.
However, some certifiers and councils will have the expectation that any spa pool or swim spa that needs a building permit, also requires a pool safety barrier.

Do I require a approval to build a deck around my Swim Spa in New South Wales?
An Approval is required for decks that have a floor area that are greater than 25 square metres, greater than 1 metre above the existing ground level, or less than 900 millimetres to the boundary.
What specifications are required for installing a Swim Spa on either a new or existing slab in New South Wales?
Concrete slabs designs for the foundation of Swim Spas are specific to each site and must be designed to suit the relevant soil type. If you have an existing slab that you wish to put a Swim Spa on, you may be required to provide a Structural Adequacy Report from an engineer to confirm that the foundation is suitable for your Spa Pool. Please contact Pool and Spa Approvals if you need this report.

We initially contacted a different certifier to be advised a DA would be required. Council advised due to excessive applications with limited staff this would be a 6 to 7+ month process.

I engaged with another certification company to obtain the necessary approval for my Swim Spa. I was initially told by them that I could get an approval with no fence required.
However, when it came to receiving my occupation certificate, they failed my inspection because they in fact had required that I install a fence around my Swim Spa.
